A thought
The system wants well-behaved productive units with all the lumps and bumps removed. Business As Usual is unkind to those of us who are different. By excluding and minimising all our unique perspectives and skills we have a status quo perpetuation machine that is finely tuned to keep those in power, in power.
Life wants diversity. A healthy ecosystem = a diverse ecosystem.
The cultural evolution required in The Great Turning includes acknowledgement and respect for all of us. If we value the diversity of humans and human perspectives, we can also open our hearts wider, to the more-than-human world and rediscover our place in ecosystem earth as caretakers and healers.
If we leverage the passion, wisdom and creativity of all sorts of humans, we can build a future of possibility. Together, we thrive. Divided, we fall.
Glimmers and sparks*
My glimmers for today are:
Explosions of frosty ground where each little pebble gets elevated on its own tiny column of ice.
Sun glistening off 1000’s of ice encrusted spiderwebs in the long grass.
Upsides of bed rest - extended cuddles with the small doggo bean.
Li’l bean is your reminder to pause and ask: What are your glimmers for today?
From your friend and your small, steadfast companion,
*Drawing Li’l Bean helped me navigate out of a period of depression in 2023. A good friend 13, 595km away, helped, too, through a ritual of swapping daily glimmers via text.
A glimmer is a tiny spark of hope, enthusiasm or joy that lifts your heart. By helping me find three glimmers each day, she gently helped me see the joy and beauty already around me.
I’d like to share this practice with you and invite you to reflect on your glimmers for the day when you read this. Think of Li’l Bean as a reminder to notice the glimmers and sparks in your life. We’d love it if you would like to share your glimmers in the comments or by hitting reply (if you don’t like sharing publicly).
Such a beautiful message Gill. Thanks for reminding me of why I live how I live!
Glimmers:
~ Having the freedom to spend the day at home with my little boy who is feeling a bit under the weather.
~ Noticing the white frost glistening on the pastures.
~ Celebrating a full moon season with my sisters via a women's circle tonight, yoga in the morning and a sound healing practice tomorrow night. For our small rural town, this is wildly exciting!
Have a beautiful day everyone.
Love Cherie
