Glimmers: Talking with a close friend who is visiting from across the country on our back porch. Picking berries with the kiddos. Hearing about earthworm tracks after a rain and warm sun on your back while drinking coffee.

Thank you Erik for maintaining the glimmer threads across the globe! there is nothing better than berry picking - what sort?

A big glimmer for me this week was my Aussie pal commenting on my silly country's species status review notice for the Rice's whale... 💜

I’m tempted to take on that course Gillian but hesitating to take the leap. Do I want to be even more discombobulated than I am already? But I’m very intrigued.

My glimmer today was noticing the first tomato on the plants in my greenhouse. Small and green, but definitely a tomato.

I sat in indecision about the course for weeks! It was hard, but it is also the best course I have ever done and has changed me in ways that are good. I'd be very happy to jump on a zoom call with you to tell you about it if you'd like. Yay for tomatoes - ours have just ended which is very weird for this part of the world, to make it to July without tomato killing frosts is very unusual (we do lightly cover) but still!

Hi Gillian, that is a lovely offer! I'm in Ireland, GMT+1, and I don't know how that aligns with you in Oz? Maybe DM me?

Appreciate your honesty and sharing how this ‘course has affected you Gillian. To continue the sauce metaphor , my choice is not to stew in it !

Plus I love that there are more Li’l beans in the tin ♥️ that gives me a glimmer as does the lavender and bees in my garden .

Bean stew! I grant I seem to have a melancholic edge - as long as I drift in and out, I am good. And how could I not - bees in lavender - a piece of magic from a different seasonal clock - thank you! xo

sending you some sunshine to tied you over until yours arrives Gillian . It's hard if not impossible to not have a melancholic edge sometimes. In my experience they are always informative and a chance to re calibrate or re group ♥️

Even a stew has to suffer , have you come across the chick pea poem ? That also gives me such joy .

The Rumi one? I just googled it - there is food for another drawing there. Thank you :)

Susan Harley's avatar

I look forward to that ♥️

Thank you Gillian. L'il Bean still has a smile on his the face...so something is still OK with the world. Bless you mate.

Gillian & Li'l Bean's avatar

Yes! L’il Bean is joyfully resisting all my more grumpy interpretations :)

Oh, and congratulations on completing your course, Gillian. Hope you enjoyed a good sleep in.

Yes looking forward to a Sunday sleep in!

A little glimmer for today was enjoying the perks of our recent addition of a battery to our solar pannels. The local area went into blackout while we continued on as normal off-grid.

Gillian & Li'l Bean's avatar

That is terrific - feels good to have a bit of independent resilience :)

Oh Gillian that all feels mighty and I hope you come out of the sorrow stage soon and with ease. Cartoon - art - says a lot. At first instance I thought best to cook baked beans, and then reading Deborah’s comment above “we can choose to get out of the sauce” I thought yes get out of the source of this mess … we can do so one can at a time. My glimmer is your post and seeing lil bean smile.

Gillian & Li'l Bean's avatar

Thank you Dianne - sauce/source - I like that!

Seeing L'il Bean smile was also my glimmer. x

Reckon lil bean is showing us we can choose to get out of the sauce? And it feels good?! Perhaps the work is to determine how? 🤔❤️

Somehow we have to juggle all of this discomfort, this process of human be-ing. I'm diving into *I Eat The Stars* by Sarah Wilson this weekend. Hoping it will put some fire in my belly to drive out the damp despair.

Glimmers for me: the cheeky morning grin of my fella, a hard won day of writing ahead, the last day of school term - which means loosening my grip on domestic flow for a few weeks.

Take care, Gillian. x

Wishing you well with your dive in *I EAT THE STARS*. I am doing a free LIVE Book Chat staring with an intro on the 5th July. Sarah will be with us LIVE to talk about the book. You are warmly invited to join us and the conversation ♥️

Thanks for the invitation, Susan! What time zone are you in?

Susan Harley's avatar

I am in the UK, so the Live is at 17.30 on a Sunday.

Sarah is coming on the 19th July.

Where are you ?

Good for you . You could watch the recording & comment if you feel inclined!

I’ll love to hear how you find I Eat the Stars - I read it as the serialisation on Subtack while Sarah was writing it - I have yet to revisit it in a condensed sitting, it is brave and beautiful and hard! I’m so glad it is making waves - conversations we need to be having more broadly. I hope your writing day was fulfilling and you got lots more cheeky grins :)
